Afterthoughts
on the Tea Parties
Hundreds of thousands, if
not millions, of Americans took to the streets Wednesday to tell our government
that it has gone too far. That government responded by implying that our
heroes who have fought in defense of freedom and liberty should be viewed
as possible terrorists.
During one of those rallies,
the Governor of Texas used the “S” word – secession – openly for the first
time to indicate the dissatisfaction of the people he serves with what
is going on in Washington. In response, the President of Mexico parroted
a lie that the guns wreaking havoc in his country were coming from legitimate
gun dealers in the United States – ostensibly at the behest of his new
friend, the President of the U.S., who wants to eliminate private ownership
of firearms in this country, a right cherished by its citizens for more
than two centuries.
My friends, we have raised
our voices. We have petitioned our government for redress of our grievances,
and that government has not only ignored us -- it has branded us as possible
criminals, and our protest as irrelevant, because it thinks it knows what
is best for us. When government has lost the faith of the governed and
attempts to impose its rule rather than seeks to serve the wishes of those
who gave it power, that government is no longer legitimate and has transcended
into tyranny.
The government of the United
States of America has made that transition and can no longer be considered
legitimate. The time has come for the dissolution of that tyranny.
There are those among we
who raised their voices April 15 who vow that we, the people, can take
back our government during the elections in 2010. I do not believe we will
have the chance if we do not act now. The erosions of our individual liberty
proceed at such a pace that by that time we may no longer be able to vote,
or may be so out-numbered by the dependents of tyranny that we cannot possibly
win an election. Moreover, remember that we have attempted several times
in the past to achieve that aim by electing the more conservative party
to power – yet in each instance that party did little different than the
current majority party, constantly gathering ever more power unto itself
while setting up the infrastructure now being used to squash our liberty.
Is it time for the patriots
among us to rise up in arms to overthrow this tyranny? I would say we are
very close to that point. We must still hold out hope that some among those
in Washington, perhaps even in our armed forces, will hear the call of
the people and react as they should to take government out of the hands
of tyrants and restore it to the people.
But the time for such action
grows exceedingly short. |
